Members must re-register each semester and include membership dues payable to AppState GIS. Membership in GIS exposes students to many travel, networking and professional development opportunities. Special industry-sponsored events such as job shadow days and Insurance Career Fairs are held each semester to acquaint the students with industry practices and foster industry relationships. Through regular meetings, guest speakers, and industry events, the GIS provides students with real-world exposure, networking, and the opportunity to build lasting friendships with classmates. The purpose of the organization is to promote, encourage, and sustain student interest in insurance, risk management, and actuarial science as a profession to encourage high moral and scholastic attainments and to facilitate the interaction and cooperation of educational institutions, industry, and professional organizations by fostering research, scholarship, and improved public relations. GIS is an international professional collegiate insurance organization sponsored by the Brantley Center. Through GIS we actively participate in regional and national Gamma Iota Sigma events, and our Rho chapter hosted their 2013 International Conference. Although we are a historically Latina based sorority, many of our sisters come from different backgrounds and ethnicities.Appalachian State University is the Rho Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS), and we established our chapter in 1979. We the women of Sigma Lambda Gamma strive to be women of distinction. From 2002-2004 the Iota chapter has been awarded "Chapter of the year," and the "Social Interaction" awards. ![]() at Kansas State University was founded on October 15th 1994. The Illustrious Iota Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc. The Illustrious Iota Chapter at Kansas State University Acknowledges and values their socio cultural difference and encourages and enables their continues contribution within an inclusive cultural context which empowers all within the organization or society. Multiculturalism is a system of beliefs and behaviors that recognizes and respects the presence of diverse in an organization or society. Since its founding, its scope and appeal as a vibrantly diverse sorority committed to empowering all its member has become a central element of the organization.
